Terms of service

These terms are the agreement between you and Melt Media Group, which runs Buttermilk, when you use buttermilklocal.com. “We” and “us” mean Melt Media Group. By running a free check or signing up, you agree to them. We’ve kept them as plain as we can.

What Buttermilk does

Buttermilk checks how your local business shows up on Google, Google Maps and AI assistants, builds and hosts a website for your business, and keeps improving it. With your permission it can also connect to your Google Business Profile to help you reply to reviews and keep your profile up to date.

The free website check needs no account. Everything else needs an account and, once billing starts for your account, a subscription.

What nobody can promise

Google and AI assistants decide for themselves who to show and recommend, and they change how they decide all the time. We work to improve your chances and we report what we actually observe, but we can’t guarantee any ranking, map position, AI recommendation, number of calls or amount of business. Nobody honestly can.

Your account

  • You must be 18 or over and have the authority to act for the business.
  • You sign in with a link we email you. Keep access to that email address to yourself.
  • One subscription covers one business. Several businesses means several subscriptions.

Price and payment

  • Buttermilk costs $99 a month per business, billed monthly in advance, unless we've agreed a different price with you in writing.
  • Cancel any time. You keep access until the end of the month you've paid for.
  • If you're not happy in your first 30 days, ask and we'll refund your first month.
  • If we change the price, we'll email you at least 30 days before it applies to you.

What you tell us must be true

Buttermilk only puts on your website what you’ve given us or confirmed: your services, prices, towns, hours, jobs and photos. You’re responsible for that information being accurate and for having the right to use the photos and words you give us. Tell us when something changes so your site stays right.

Changes to your website and profile

  • On the website we host for you, you choose: approve each change, or let us make improvements and tell you what changed. Every change can be undone.
  • On a website or account we don't host, nothing changes without your approval.
  • On your Google Business Profile, we never change your business name, main category or address. Review replies are only posted when you press Post.

What you own

  • Your business information, photos and the content of your website are yours. You can download your whole website from Settings at any time.
  • Your domain name stays registered in your name. We never take ownership of it.
  • You let Buttermilk use your content only to run your website and the service.
  • The Buttermilk software, design and brand are ours.

Fair use

You agree not to use Buttermilk to:

  • publish anything false, misleading, unlawful, or that you don't have the right to use;
  • post fake reviews, offer customers anything in exchange for reviews, or otherwise break Google's rules;
  • attack, overload, scrape or try to get into parts of the service that aren't yours;
  • run free checks in bulk or resell the service without our agreement.

We can remove content or suspend an account that breaks these rules, and we’ll tell you why.

Other services

Buttermilk works with services we don’t control, including Google, AI assistants and your domain registrar. Your use of them is also governed by their own terms, and we aren’t responsible for changes or outages on their side. How we handle information is in our privacy policy.

Ending the service

You can cancel any time. We can end the service with 30 days’ notice, or straight away if an account seriously breaks these terms. Either way you can download your website first, and your domain stays yours to point anywhere you like.

Limits of our responsibility

We work hard to keep Buttermilk running and accurate, but it is provided “as is”, without guarantees beyond the ones in these terms. As far as the law allows, we’re not responsible for lost profits, lost business or indirect losses, and our total responsibility to you for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, USA. If we ever disagree, we’ll try to sort it out by talking first; anything we can’t resolve goes to the state or federal courts in Colorado.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we’ll update this page and its date, and email you about significant changes before they take effect. Continuing to use Buttermilk after that means you accept the new terms.
